NRNA Hong Kong Brings ‘Road to Everest’ Back to the Big Screen on November 1

HONG KONG — The Nepali documentary Road to Everest will be screened again in Hong Kong on Sunday, November 1, 2026, following strong audience interest in its first screening.

Organized by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Hong Kong, the special screening will take place at 5:00 p.m. at Sunbeam Whampoa Cinema Hall in Hung Hom, Kowloon.

NRNA Hong Kong announced the screening and unveiled its official poster at a press conference held on Thursday.

The second screening has been organized following the successful first screening and growing demand from people who were unable to attend the earlier show.

NRNA Hong Kong General Secretary Indra Pun said supporting a film through which Nepalis are attempting to tell their own story with their own investment and limited resources is also a responsibility of the Nepali community.

“For a long time, we were not able to tell our own stories ourselves. Now Nepalis are trying to tell their own story with their own investment. Despite limited resources, we are proud that such an effort is being made,” Pun said.

Pun said the November 1 screening is also being linked with NRN Day, with an additional objective of supporting people affected by the recent devastating floods and landslides in Rasuwa.

He also encouraged Nepali children and young people living in Hong Kong to watch the documentary and learn more about Mount Everest and Nepal’s Himalayan heritage.

Second Screening Following Strong Demand

Kabita Gurung, NRNA Hong Kong Vice President and Documentary Screening Coordinator, said the second screening was being organized after the first show received an encouraging response and demand for another screening increased.

“Many people were unable to attend the first screening. Therefore, we are organizing this second show so that more Nepalis and Hong Kong residents can have the opportunity to watch the film,” she said.

According to Gurung, the cinema booking and other necessary preparations for the screening have already been completed. She urged everyone to participate and help make the second screening a success.

A Message on Climate Change and Himalayan Conservation

Tika Gurung, Female Vice President of NRNA, said Road to Everest goes beyond the story of Mount Everest and also highlights the impact of climate change on the Himalayan region.

She said NRNA ICC has already reached an understanding with We Will Rise Foundation with the objective of taking the documentary to audiences around the world. She also urged NRNA National Coordination Councils (NCCs) worldwide to take initiatives to screen the film in their respective countries.

“The film also speaks about the impact of climate change on the Himalayan region. We have a plan to take it around the world, and I would also like to request NCCs around the world to organize screenings of the film,” Tika Gurung said.

She added, the November 1 screening is being organized in connection with NRN Day, with the proceeds from the film screening intended to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of families displaced by floods and landslides in Rasuwa.

More Than an Everest Story

NRNA Hong Kong President Anu Rai said Road to Everest is not limited to the story of an Everest expedition.

According to Rai, the documentary presents the contribution of the Sherpa community, their courage, struggles, challenges and determination, while also addressing the impact of climate change on the Himalayas.

“This is not only a story about Everest. It also tells the story of the contribution, courage, struggles, challenges and determination of the Sherpa community, along with the impact of climate change. Everest is a symbol of our shared identity and pride,” Rai said.

She encouraged Nepalis living in Hong Kong to watch the documentary.

The press conference was moderated by Bishwonath Ghising, Secretary of NRNA Hong Kong. Also in attendance were former NRNA Hong Kong President Gokarna Dhakal, office-bearers Manoj Gautam, Arjun Gauchan, Manish Limbu and Sabitra Ingname, along with Rita Gurung, President of Nepal Club Hong Kong, among others.

Screening on November 1

The second Hong Kong screening of Road to Everest will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Sunbeam Whampoa Cinema Hall, Hung Hom, Kowloon.

Produced by We Will Rise Foundation, the 50-minute documentary follows a journey from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest, exploring mountaineering, human courage, Nepal’s Himalayan heritage and the growing impact of climate change.

Following its special screening in Nepal and grand premiere in Hong Kong, Road to Everest is now being prepared for wider international audiences through film festivals and special screenings in different countries, according to the production team.
