‘Road to Everest’ Documentary Unveils Official Trailer
The official trailer of ‘Road to Everest’, a documentary centered on the courage, mystery, challenges and impact of climate change surrounding Mount Everest, has been released. The trailer offers a compelling glimpse into an extraordinary journey from sea level to the summit of the world’s highest mountain, capturing human courage, struggle and determination along the way.
Produced with an entirely Nepali technical team, the documentary contains no artificial or computer-generated visuals, according to the production team. ‘Road to Everest’ is claimed to be the first Everest documentary to document a complete real-life journey from sea level to the summit using entirely authentic footage.
The documentary is the result of more than two years of research, filming and production. The story has been written by journalist Santosh Acharya and Nirmal Shrestha. Featuring the voice of renowned broadcaster Bhusan Dahal, the documentary has been produced in both Nepali and English.
At the heart of the documentary is the inspiring journey of a man in his fifties who challenges age, time and his own limitations to pursue his dream of climbing Mount Everest. According to the production team, his journey goes beyond mountaineering, becoming a story of dreams, struggle, self-belief and the human determination to turn the seemingly impossible into reality.
Directed by Nirmal Shrestha, Road to Everest goes beyond showcasing the grandeur of Mount Everest. It explores the risks and challenges of high-altitude mountaineering, the tireless contribution of the Sherpa community, human courage, and the rapidly changing Himalayan environment under the impact of climate change. The documentary seeks to portray Everest not merely as a mountain, but as a symbol of courage, perseverance, determination and human potential.
The documentary features renowned mountaineers Phurba Tenzing Sherpa and Nima Gyalzen Sherpa. Phurba has successfully summited Mount Everest 18 times, while Nima has successfully climbed Everest 10 times and completed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks. Binod Gurung, Suraj Gurung and Nirmal Shrestha also appear as fellow travelers and important figures throughout the journey.
According to the production team, ‘Road to Everest’ will have its Nepal premiere in Kathmandu on 22 August 2026, followed by its international premiere in Hong Kong on 13 September 2026. Following the premieres, the documentary is scheduled to be screened across various locations in Nepal as well as at international platforms, film festivals and cinemas.
Produced by the social organization We Will Rise Foundation, the documentary aims not only to inspire audiences but also to promote Nepal’s tourism globally and draw international attention to the growing impact of climate change on the Himalayan region.
With a runtime of 50 minutes, Road to Everest presents an authentic and emotional journey that brings together the majesty of Everest, the challenges of mountaineering, human determination and the changing face of the Himalayas.
