What is Blood Donation?
Blood donation is the voluntary act of donating blood from one’s body to help save the lives of others. It not only helps patients in need but is also considered beneficial for the donor’s health.
A healthy human body generally contains around 6 liters (approximately 10 units) of blood. During blood donation, only about 470 milliliters, or 1 unit of blood, is collected, which is merely 10–14 percent of the total blood in the body. This does not cause any harm to health.
The blood produced in the human body naturally gets replaced within approximately 120 days. Donating blood helps stimulate the body’s blood production process, which is considered beneficial for overall health.
However, a person donating blood should be healthy, and it is very important to take proper care of one’s health before and after donating blood.
